What we see

Sound familiar?

These are the signs we see on PS5s that come in for an HDMI repair.

  1. 01

    Powers on, but no picture

The light comes on and you might hear the startup sound, but the TV shows “no signal” on every input.

  2. 02

    Picture flickers or cuts out

The image drops out, flashes or only works when the cable is held at a certain angle. The port’s pins or solder joints are usually worn.

  3. 03

Cable feels loose or won’t go in

The plug wobbles, won’t sit flush, or the port looks bent or cracked. Don’t force it: that can damage the board underneath.

  4. 04

After a trip, a knock or a move

Someone caught the cable, the console fell, or it was moved while plugged in. The port takes the full force and the pins snap.

  5. 05

Sound but no video (or the other way round)

Half a signal usually means only some of the 19 pins are making contact.

  6. 06

    Already had the port changed?

If a new port hasn’t fixed it, the fault may be further back on the board. We’ll check and tell you before doing anything.

Before you bring it in

Try these first. They’re free.

Not every “no signal” is the port. Run through these before you bring it in, without forcing the cable.

  • Swap the cable

Try a different HDMI cable, ideally the one that came with the PS5. Cables fail more often than you’d think.

  • Change the TV input

Use a different HDMI socket on the TV and make sure the TV is set to that input.

  • Try another screen

Plug into a different TV or monitor if you have one. If it works there, the PS5 is fine.

  • Start in Safe Mode

With the PS5 off, hold the power button until the second beep (about 7 seconds), connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button. Pick “Change Video Output”.

Why PS5 HDMI ports break

The HDMI port on a PS5 is soldered straight onto the motherboard and sits right at the back of the console, so it takes every knock. A tripped-over cable, a console pulled forward on the TV stand or a plug pushed in at an angle is enough to bend the pins or crack the solder joints.

The fix is to remove the damaged port and fit a new one. That means opening the console, taking out the motherboard and careful soldering, so it isn’t a DIY job. Done properly, your PS5 is back to its full picture with nothing else changed, and your games and saves stay where they are.

FAQ

PS5 HDMI Repair: your questions

How much does a PS5 HDMI repair cost?

A PS5 HDMI port replacement is £75. We check the console first, and if the fault turns out to be something other than the port we’ll tell you the price before any work starts. No surprises.

How long does a PS5 HDMI port replacement take?

It depends on the day’s workload and parts, but it’s a repair we do regularly. We’ll tell you the turnaround when you message, and let you know as soon as it’s ready.

Will I lose my games or saves?

No. The repair is to the HDMI port on the motherboard. Your storage isn’t touched, so your games, saves and account stay as they are.

Can I still play my PS5 with a broken HDMI port?

Not on a TV. The PS5 needs a working HDMI connection to show a picture, so you’ll need the port fixed to play normally.

Is it definitely the HDMI port?

Usually, if the console powers on but you get no picture with a known good cable and TV. If the port looks fine, we’ll check further and explain what we find before going ahead.

Do you repair PS5 HDMI ports near Maidstone and West Malling?

Yes. We’re in Snodland, about 12 minutes from West Malling and Aylesford, 8 from Larkfield and roughly 20 from Maidstone. Message us and drop it off any day between 8am and 10pm.
